We engaged extensively with the company to better understand the root causes of safety incidents, the effectiveness of its safety management systems, and the measures being implemented to strengthen its safety culture.

Engagement Rationale

Mine safety and employee wellbeing remain key ESG priorities for us, particularly in a sector where fatalities and serious injuries have historically been a concern.

Our Engagement

We engaged extensively with the company to better understand the root causes of safety incidents, the effectiveness of its safety management systems, and the measures being implemented to strengthen its safety culture. As part of our stewardship activities, we also conducted a site visit to one of the company’s mining operations to assess progress firsthand and engage directly with management on safety practices.

Outcomes

The company has reported improvements in its safety performance, including a reduction in long-term injuries and stronger overall safety metrics. While the ultimate objective of achieving zero harm has not yet been reached, the company continues to demonstrate measurable progress towards this goal.

Next Steps

We will continue monitoring safety performance through regular engagement and site visits, with a focus on ensuring that safety improvements are sustained and that the company remains committed to achieving zero harm.
