One of South Africa’s largest emitters has historically been slow in developing a credible transition pathway and lacked sufficiently ambitious emissions-reduction targets.

Engagement rationale

One of South Africa’s largest emitters has historically been slow in developing a credible transition pathway and lacked sufficiently ambitious emissions-reduction targets.

Our engagement

We have applied pressure through multiple engagements with the company, advocating for clearer targets and a credible pathway to reduce emissions.

Outcomes

There have been improvements in greenhouse gas emissions and group energy efficiency; however, significant work remains to achieve a credible transition pathway and meaningful long-term emissions reductions.

Next steps

We are also participating in a collaborative engagement initiative with CA100+ to continuously engage with the company, monitor progress against its commitments, and ensure that it delivers on its emissions-reduction targets and transition pathway.
